Education: University of Washington; MS Civil Engineering. University of Washington; BS Civil Engineering
Occupation: Professional Civil Engineer

Statement:

My name is Derek Doell and I have lived in Burien for over 30 years.  During that time, our community has grown significantly in size and will continue to grow in the future.  We need a hearty infrastructure including roads, water, and sewer service to maintain our great lifestyle here in the B-Town, and that is where I come in:  I have worked as a civil engineer for almost 20 years and I have the skill set and desire to be a great Sewer Commissioner.  In addition to understanding the technical elements of wastewater treatment, I am also familiar with the budgetary concerns that sewer districts such as Southwest Suburban often encounter.  My goal in this position is to ensure that the taxpayer’s money is spent wisely to maintain, improve, and expand our sewer network.  Thank you for your time, and I appreciate your vote come Election Day.

Susan M. Genzale

Susan M. Genzale

Education: Graduate St. Francis Cabrini Hospital School of Nursing
Occupation: Accounting, Tony’s Market

Statement:

It has been my honor to serve as your commissioner these past five years, first assuming my late husband’s Tony Genzale’s seat, then standing for election. Together we operated Tony’s Market; experience which has helped me bring a business owner’s perspective and practical sense to the table.  My grandparents were Italian immigrants who taught me that value of hard work.  Acting with my fellow commissioners and district staff, we have made great strides forward in upgrading infrastructure, staff training, safety programs, security and technology.  Our sewer rate is about half (50%) the average sewer rate in King County and the second lowest sewer rate of the 28 sewer providers in King County.  I take pride in the fact that area residents frequently tell me that we provide excellent service to our ratepayers.  I would like to continue serving you and ask for your vote.
