King County Local Voters' Pamphlet

August 4, 2015 Primary And Special Election

City, City of SeaTac
Council Position No. 1

Craig Baker

Craig Baker

Education: Whatcom Community College; Washington State University
Occupation: IT Manager; Digital Communications Chairman

Statement:

For years I've watched the many scandals in SeaTac, but I've finally had enough! We are being taxed to death, but the City Council doesn't listen to us. I'm getting involved to return our city to the people.

I'm an Information Technology Professional and a Committee Chairman for a ham-radio organization, which prepares to support regional first-responders in emergencies. I have skills in budgeting, problem solving, and decision making. I'm concerned about safe streets and neighborhoods, financial responsibility, along with transparency and integrity in government. We need a City Code of Ethics!

I'm the middle ground candidate. Forschler is good on taxes, but he's conservative. Ladenburg is in the pocket of special interests and can't be trusted. He violated his 2011 campaign promises for improving parks and safer neighborhoods. In April Ladenburg voted against removing garbage and drug camps from North SeaTac Park. Please vote Craig Baker, Position #1.

Rick Forschler

Rick Forschler

Education: Certified Commissioner; Business Administration - E-Commerce Emphasis; Journeyman Machinist; Vocational Instructor's Certificate
Occupation: Retired Boeing Manufacturing Engineer, Systems Analyst, and Computer Programmer

Statement:

I'm returning to the SeaTac Council to restore economic responsibility and ethics. While I was on the City Council I opposed raising taxes. Since then the current Council Majority has increased spending, raised property taxes, imposed a 6% utility tax, and are now planning franchise fees on seven water and sewer districts. These increases will harm our residents, unless we replace three incumbents in this election, and reverse the damage next year.

I also support a Code of Ethics.

During my previous term on the City Council I served on the Administration and Finance and Public Works Committees. I was also the City's representative to the SCORE facility. Prior to serving on the Council I was chair of both the SeaTac Human Services Committee and SeaTac Planning Commission. So I know SeaTac can do more with less.

Please return me to office and encourage everyone to vote in this election.

Barry Ladenburg

Barry Ladenburg

Education: Clover Park Technical College, Graduate
Occupation: Machinist King County Dept of Transportation and SeaTac City Council

Statement:

Our Councilmember, Barry Ladenburg, has a reputation as a strong, no-nonsense, plain-spoken leader.  He’s known for taking on the toughest of issues, and works until the right solutions are found.

Barry led our city through the toughest budget exercise in our city’s history, as we struggled to respond to the downturn from the “great recession”. Barry put our values first, and made the budget choices necessary, without compromising police and fire services.

Today, our city budget is balanced and sustainable.

Code enforcement was lacking in our city until Barry Ladenburg took the lead.  He understands our desire for clean, safe neighborhoods that we can be proud of.

Negotiating respectfully, with strength and patience, Barry’s advocacy for increased light-rail service and enhanced Metro bus service has gotten us results.

Barry Ladenburg’s roots in our community go deeper than bedrock.  Returning him for a second term will serve our city well.
