Federal Way School District 210
Director District 3

I am honored to seek your vote for Federal Way School Board Director #3. As Directors, we are stewards of the community’s trust, taxpayer dollars, and responsible for holding the Superintendent accountable. Most importantly, we advocate for 23,000 students who speak 115+ languages, including 700+ students who are experiencing homelessness. Our community is changing and we face complex challenges and opportunities.
In my short time on the board after being appointed in 2018, I have used my experience to address community concerns and meet these challenges head on. I have worked as an educator, children’s mental health specialist, and a program director for those experiencing homelessness, re-entry from prison, and foster care. I am also a current FWPS parent, a special needs mom, and sit on the FW Juvenile Diversion Community Accountability Board.
Voting for me means voting for someone who will advocate for school safety, curriculum transparency, funding special education, college and career-ready youth and keeping our quality educators in FWPS.
I am proudly endorsed by the Washington Education Association, MLK Labor Council, Sen. Claire Wilson, Rep. Kristine Reeves, Rep. Mike Pellicciotti, Mayor Jim Ferrell, Councilmember Martin Moore, and Councilmember Jesse Johnson. Vote Phillips for Schools!

Stronger Schools Build Stronger Communities!
I have lived in Federal Way for 35 years. As a single mom I created a thriving home, successfully raising 3 children that graduated from Federal Way Schools. Through my real-life education, I understand what successful schools should look like. Strong Schools foster courage, self-confidence, responsibility, cooperation and gratitude. Strong Schools also produce students competent in basic skills, employment ready, college ready, and prepared for adult life.
Today in our district only 11.2 % of our graduates are college ready. 24% of our students are “Math Proficient!” Our vocational program is fragmented with options limited to certain schools. According to www.greatschools.org, a resource used by realtors and businesses, all but one of our secondary schools are rated at 3 out of 10 or below! These low ratings discourage families and business from relocating or staying in our community.
Some solutions I propose as a Director: Work to ensure students have access to all vocational and academic programs, research successful innovative policies for School Board consideration, and support parental involvement encouraging individual & family success. Our kids and our community deserve a better future. When elected I will represent you. Your voice will be heard! https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/washington/districts/federal-way-school-district/federal-way-high-school-20870.
