2019 general election
City of Mercer Island
Council Position 1
My family moved here in 1970 and I attended Mercer Island schools. My wife Emily and I returned to Mercer Island in 1993 where we've raised our two children, and they have participated in lacrosse, water polo, swim, drama and high school radio.
Emily and I have always had a deep passion for service to our community. Emily has worked as a PTA Officer, Schools Foundation and Lacrosse Board Member, Table Captain, and parapro at MISD.
I fought for five years to reform our residential development code and enact a tree ordinance. I fought to make safety a priority for the bus intercept, to keep cell towers out of our neighborhoods, for a more transparent garbage contract, and to build trust through sustainable spending. Please join me to preserve our neighborhood character, permanently protect our parks, and preserve the safety and character of Mercer Island.

As a third-generation Washingtonian, my wife, Miri Cypers, and I moved home to Mercer Island with our two-year-old to a community we know and love. We value the parks, schools, safety, and sense of community.
Mercer Island faces challenges requiring our leaders to build consensus and make decisions to ensure what we value as Islanders is rejuvenated and retained. I have a proven record of bringing together differing viewpoints, finding cost-saving efficiencies, and leading with compassion.
As your representative on the City Council, I will work to enhance the unique nature of our Island as we meet the needs and opportunities of the future, with a focus on transportation, parks, safety, and partnering with the school district. I am endorsed by Sen. Lisa Wellman, Representatives Tana Senn & My-Linh Thai, and many of your friends and neighbors. I would be honored to have your vote.
