Statement:

It will be a blessing and a privilege to serve as your Council Member for another term.  I'm honored to have the endorsements of our entire City Council, our local Police and Fire, dozens of business owners, and hundreds of residents and property owners.

When I chose to run for Council in 2015, Des Moines was on the verge of bankruptcy and criticism toward City Hall was at an all-time high.  It was not a popular time to be in public office, but I ran determined to face our financial challenges "head on" knowing it would not be easy.  These past 4 years, with hard work by this Council, a new City Manager, and a restructured City Administration, we have now completely turned our situation around.

Once again I will promise to continue to move us forward and keep us financially solvent. Thank you, and may God bless Des Moines.

Statement:

I love Des Moines. I've lived here since I was 11, and I'm proud to be raising two kids here. Our city is beaming with charm and filled with kind, interesting people. That said, city leaders have failed to take advantage of our city's vast potential, they haven't adequately addressed many of the city's issues including growing crime and poverty rates, and they've continued to raise taxes and fees. In addition, our city government lacks transparency.

I'm running for city council because I believe that we need more councilmembers who are willing to confront these issues head-on. As someone who founded a successful business that currently employs multiple people, and as someone who spent years working with nonprofit policy groups and lawmakers like King County Councilmember Dave Upthegrove, I believe I am uniquely positioned to help improve Des Moines.

I'm honored by any consideration you give to supporting my candidacy.
