2017 general election
Houghton Community Municipal Corporation
Council Position 1
In 2016, the Kirkland City Council changed the zoning regulations to allow retail marijuana shops to be located within 100 feet of child care centers (it had been 1,000 feet). During the hearing process, the Houghton Community Council (HCC) made it clear that we disagreed with this change, that it was not in the best public/children’s interest and that we would veto such a change for Houghton. As a result, the City Council excluded Houghton from this egregious zoning change. Now in Kirkland, marijuana shops can be located within 100 feet of child care centers, except for Houghton where the 1,000 feet boundary still applies by code. HCC’s veto power provides a check on unfortunate City land use decisions being implemented in Houghton. Your Yes vote to Continue your Houghton Community Council will allow the HCC to continue protecting the character of our neighborhood. Oh, and please vote for me!
