Vashon Island Fire & Rescue
Commissioner Position 4
The past several years your commissioners have been hard at work preparing for the future of VIF&R through community engagement, strategic planning and reorganizing. Our goals are to continue providing reliable emergency services and achieve financial stabilization.
For 26 years VIF&R has not raised taxes. Financial reserves are dwindling due to increasing expenses, reduced revenue and no long term financial plan. Our new Chiefs recently completed a state of the Department analysis, resulting in a revised business plan. In order to continue providing quality services, we must remedy our current economic situation.
Over the past 39 years I have served three fire departments and amassed extensive experience – as a firefighter, officer, inspector, EMT, dispatcher, instructor, IAFF union executive officer, contract negotiator, fire commissioner, active WFCA participant and current President - The National Association of Elected Fire Officials.
To secure a future of reliable VIF&R emergency response, Re-elect Candy McCullough
My promises to our community:
Streamline and stabilize our Fire District so that it can adequately serve public safety needs on a scale that fits our island and population. Every tax dollar will be used wisely.
My expertise with organization management including public agencies will allow me to fully evaluate the health and needs of the Fire District and provide strategies and policies that make it an effective resource. I will inform and involve citizens in matters of budget and strategic direction.
I will partner with the Fire Chief and provide the culture and policies for the Chief to effectively manage the agency and to dig out from the current crises and problems.
I have a career-long history of fixing broken organizations, providing transparent and accurate financial reports, and reducing waste and overhead. I will do this for our Fire District with the utmost integrity and dedication.
