Education: : Master of Science in Engineering, University of Washington; Minor in Finance, University of Rochester
Occupation: Manufacturing Engineer; previously, 20 years small business owner
Statement:

As a two-term incumbent, I contribute an open-minded, fiscally responsible, conservative perspective.  Accomplishments during my service include stable finances, updated facilities, and most importantly our updated, community supported Mission: “Equip every student to engage, thrive and contribute in and ever-changing world.”  Our Mission reflects my long-held belief in serving every student and their “unique interests, aptitudes and dreams”.

Updating the Mission is an important milestone, but we are not done.  Still needed are common agreement on the non-academic characteristics graduates need for success, specific program components to develop them, and a means to measure them.  “Engaging and thriving” requires that each student to be consistently and appropriately challenged.  Rigor and support for both struggling and high-achieving students is the answer.

College is not for everyone.  Ensuring variety is available and encouraging every student to find and passionately pursue the appropriate path is essential.

Please support me in advancing these efforts.

Education: BA Psychology, Whitman College; MSW Columbia University
Occupation: Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist; Community Volunteer VISD Racial Equity Committee
Statement:

We need school board directors who are committed to our district’s mission, vision and values, and who will listen to student voices and parent and school staff concerns, and make sound decisions. I have dedicated over 16 years of my career helping to transform the lives of children and their families as an administrator and manager at child welfare organizations, and have collaborated with VISD's leadership team on racial equity and education issues. Currently, major projects are now underway, our budget is balanced, and our district is stable. We are ready to focus on how best to utilize funding to enhance the learning environment for our kids, and ensure that every child can thrive. I’m committed to supporting policies that close the opportunity gap and serve students with diverse learning needs. I’m eager to get to work and be part of making our excellent schools even better.
