Education: M.S. in Engineering and B.S. in Forestry, University of Washington
Occupation: Transportation Engineer; Small Business Owner in Kirkland; Kirkland City Councilmember
Statement:

Serving as your councilmember is an honor. I will continue working with you for common sense solutions that enhance Kirkland’s charm and livability, while responsibly managing growth.

My priorities: implement transportation improvements that allow us to get around faster and more reliably; make smart investments in police and fire services to keep us safe; preserve our remaining open spaces for future generations.

Over sixteen years I have volunteered in many roles including Transportation and Planning Commissioner, co-founder of Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance, Co-Chair Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods, Little League coach, and LWSD facility task force member. I have made our streets safer for walking and biking, worked to build more school classrooms, and pushed for responsible land use regulations.

Kirkland is a wonderful community and that’s why I raise my family here. Let’s work together to keep it special.

Endorsements: Kirkland Firefighters; Sierra Club; Representatives McBride, Goodman; many other leaders.

Education: BA Psychology, University of Washington + Montessori Teacher, International Certification
Occupation: Educator, Founder of Montessori School
Statement:

I want to ensure our community grows in a more balanced, sustainable way. We need more affordable housing, more parks, improved senior centers, better transit, and an economy that works for all families and people who work here. As a small-business owner, I want to bring fiscal responsibility and transparency to City government.

As a teacher, I know the importance of a good education, and support our public schools.

My affiliations with Kirkland Downtown Rotary Club and Eastshore Unitarian Universalists enable me to promote causes concerning social justice.I am an activist who advocates progressive values. I’m endorsed by the LD 48th Democrats, Congresswoman Pramilla Jayapal, and Planned Parenthood.

If elected, I would be the only immigrant woman of color on the Kirkland City Council. I believe in collaborating to bring a synergistic energy to our community.

I would be honored by your vote. Please visit www.UzmaforKirkland.com for more information.
