One Size Does Not Fit All.

This is my 22nd year as a PTA, parent volunteer in the Lake Washington School District. I have four children, two of whom have special needs. I want every child to receive an equitable, high quality education, building on their strengths and up from their challenges.

LWSD is on top of technology in education. We need more opportunities in vocational education, more inclusion of special education students and more assistance with college preparation for those students going on to study at the university level. We have award winning teachers and support staff. Teaching children and raising children are demanding responsibilities. When parents and community partner with schools, student outcomes improve. With the 2019 class requirement to have 24 credits to graduate, now more than ever we need that solid connection. I will strengthen the home to school partnership using my background in education, and my decades of experience as a PTA leader and volunteer.

I have been honored to receive four PTA Golden Acorn Awards. I am just as honored to have the endorsement of retiring LWSD board member, Nancy Bernard, and former board member, Jackie Pendergrass.

Please vote Sage for Schools.

College is a great path for many of our student to take and we’re proud of them. But for some, college is not the best way for them to find a good job and lead a successful life. The Lake Washington School District needs to do a bit more in providing opportunities for all our students, not just the college bound.

I will work to incorporate more vocation education programs into the district so that our students are afforded the opportunity to see the other options. Courses such as woodshop, welding, and auto shop can create this next generation of skilled workers our local and regional industries need so badly!

I went to college but after the economic crash, I had to retrain myself. Now I work for a Boeing–affiliated company but will be paying off my student loans for a long time. To those who will not go to college, we owe it to subsequent generations to show them that there are other ways to achieve prosperity while they are still in the K-12 system. I am an elected Democratic PCO and Volunteer. I would be honored to have your support.

I want to serve on the School Board because public education is my calling and my passion. I have thirteen years of experience working with students from middle up to graduate school in three states, in both urban and suburban districts. I believe all students should graduate prepared for whatever path they choose to pursue next: further education, technical training, or entering the workforce. To achieve this, we should continue investing in STEM education and make a stronger commitment to world languages. Research shows learning a second language results in improved cognitive function, higher academic achievement, and higher salaries. For this reason, I would work to create an early world language education program to provide our students with the skills they need to succeed in our diverse communities, local and nationwide. My experience as a professional, a student, and a parent would add a fresh perspective that would lead to practical improvements for our students. I would be honored to receive your vote.
