2017 primary election
City of Kirkland
Council Position 7
I want to ensure our community grows in a more balanced, sustainable way. We need more affordable housing, more parks, improved senior centers, better transit, and an economy that works for all families and people who work here. I want to bring more transparency and fiscal responsibility to City government.
As a teacher, I know the importance of a good education, and support our public schools. I’ve been a PTSA mom at both my children’s schools.
My affiliations with Kirkland Downtown Rotary Club and Eastshore Unitarian Universalists enable me to promote causes concerning social justice.I am an activist who advocates progressive values. I’m endorsed by the LD 48th Democrats.
If elected, I would be the only immigrant woman of color on the Kirkland City Council. I believe in collaborating to bring a synergistic energy to our community.
I would be honored by your vote. Please visit www.UzmaforKirkland.com for more information.
Serving as your councilmember is an honor. I will continue working with you for common sense solutions that enhance Kirkland’s charm and livability while responsibly managing growth.
My priorities are: implement transportation improvements that allow us to get around faster and more reliably; make smart investments in police and fire services to keep us safe; preserve our remaining open spaces for the enjoyment of future generations.
Sixteen years’ volunteering in the community as a Transportation and Planning Commissioner and neighborhood leader has allowed me to help make our streets safer for walking and biking, work to build more school classrooms, push for responsible land use regulations, and help create the Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance.
Kirkland is special and that’s why I raise my family here. Let’s work together to keep it special.
Endorsements: Senators Palumbo, Kuderer; Representatives McBride, Kloba, Goodman; Councilmembers Nixon, Marchione; and many other local leaders.

I believe in honest government, without potential conflicts of interest that could harm Kirkland taxpayers. I believe in real diversity. I built highly diverse and high performance teams at Microsoft that excluded no-one. I believe in education. I ran a Makerspace in Totem Lake that taught robotics to teenagers. I believe in technology. I designed and built an Artificial Intelligence to help seniors live independently. I believe in enabling poor people to pull themselves up. I defeated poverty, and know how the city can help. I believe a parent living with young children and a senior knows what both need. I believe more jobs should be in Kirkland. I have plan to bring them here. Vote for me if you want honest government without even the appearance of corruption. Vote for me if you want more intelligence in government. Vote for me if you want to help.
