Occupation: Pastor
Statement:

I'm the local Bishop of New Destiny Church, but counting all our campuses I pastor 24,000 persons. While my Masters Degree is in Divinity, my organizational and financial management skills apply to any organization, including local city government. I will use these talents to serve Des Moines.

Des Moines lacks fiscal discipline, which more tax never solves. We must lower spending. Meanwhile, we need new vision of Des Moines' unique opportunities to generate revenue. SeaTac is the fastest growing airport in the United States and Des Moines could potentially be the closest location for cruise ships. Did you know when a cruise ship docks it contributes $2.6 million to the local economy? Imagine dozens annually in Des Moines?

Lastly, we can no longer tolerate the current level of crime. I have a plan to use CRIMESTOPPERS in Des Moines.

Please allow me to serve with vision on the City Council.

Statement:

As a nearly life-long resident of Des Moines, I have a history of bringing community and government together to solve challenging issues. Twice you have honored me with your vote to put those skills to good use.

As your City Council member and Mayor, I have helped lead the way to prioritizing key government services, particularly ensuring community safety. Under my leadership, we have worked hard to provide long-term financial stability to the City.

My focus remains on the city’s revitalization. When re-elected, I will continue to partner with citizens, community groups and businesses to understand and listen to concerns, providing your input during the decision making process. We must continue to move forward together, improving the city’s business climate, while being sensitive to the needs and desires of its citizens.

I again ask for the honor of your vote, so we can continue to revitalize our wonderful waterfront city.

Statement:

Having lived in Des Moines most of my life, I’ve come to know it as a beautiful, welcoming city with residents that care deeply about their community. I’m running for city council because I believe strongly that with a fresh set of ideas to push our city forward, we can become even greater without sacrificing any bit of our heart.

As a councilor I would work strenuously to ensure that I’m representing the earnest values and strong-minded opinions of Des Moines residents. If elected, I will do everything in my power to pass policies that benefit workers (I’m endorsed by the King County Labor Council), advances public safety (including increased police protection), and improves the day-to-day lives of those who live in the city (including raising the minimum wage, ensuring Marina parking remains free to residents and supporting park renovations and expansions).
