GENERAL 2025
City of Sammamish
Council Position No. 1
Harlan Gallinger
1316 235TH PL SE
SAMMAMISH, WA 98075
I ask for the opportunity to represent your interests in guiding the future of Sammamish. I believe that the Council needs to work harder to listen to neighborhood and community feedback. The Council should be approachable and work together to represent our collective interests that support why most of us moved here: great schools, safe neighborhoods, and beautiful natural environments.
Any plans to add additional housing units to the Sammamish Town Center need more community engagement. While affordable housing should be a priority, we need clear understanding of the impact on city property tax revenue. We cannot support development that is not financially sustainable.
Raising taxes needs to be the last alternative to managing Sammamish’s budget challenges. I have a decade of experience representing the community’s interests and developing a $400+ million dollar operating budget that delivers a world-class education while maintaining a healthy fund balance and stable tax rates.
I’m a 30-year Sammamish resident and it’s been an honor to serve as your Deputy Mayor. I’m running for re-election to continue the forward-thinking vision our Council set in 2022. We’ve laid strong foundations through key plans like the Climate Action Plan, Transportation Master Plan, and the 2024 Comprehensive Plan which will guide our city’s sustainable growth.
I successfully advocated to double sidewalk funding to $2.4 million over six years, accelerating pedestrian safety improvements. I also championed the partial opening of Beaton Hill Park, offering a safe trail for walkers. Over the next four years, I’m focused on fiscal sustainability, extreme weather resilience, and the Town Center to expand housing options, grow revenue with new businesses, and create a community gathering space.
Committees: KC Board of Health (Co-Vice Chair), KC Solid Waste Advisory Committee Endorsements: Sierra Club/WA, 41st & 45th LD Democrats, State Reps. Thai and Zahn, and more.
