Occupation: Program Coordinator, Master Gardeners of KC, Burien City Council Member
Statement:

I’ve seen how local government can work for Burien residents. I was proud to secure $5 million for flood control in Boulevard Park. I’ve championed renter protections, housing stability, a fair minimum wage, increased human services and regional partnerships like the 911 co-responder program. I’ve supported clean water, air, land, trees and climate mitigation. As chair of the Airport Committee, I advocate for Burien residents impacted by airport noise and expansion.

I’m committed to walkable neighborhoods, smart public safety, environmental justice, and a Burien that works for all.  I will continue to work collaboratively across jurisdictions and communicate clearly and honestly with constituents, even on difficult topics, asking hard questions on your behalf. I humbly ask for your vote.

Endorsements include: 33rd, 34th and KC Democrats,  National Women’s Political Caucus, MLK Labor, UFCW3000, Transit Riders Union, Katie Wilson, The Urbanist,  Representatives Gregerson, Obras, Thomas, and Fitzgibbon, Senators Orwall and Alvarado.

Statement:

As a lifetime resident of Burien, I’m aware of the challenges we face. I’ve grown up here. I’ve seen the trajectory we’ve been on in recent years. This city raised me. I’m ready to step up, serve my community, and lead with fresh perspective.

I chose to run for council, and specifically position 5, because I have watched a sheer lack of responsibility with the ideas being promoted. From open drug use and encampments which disabled our communities, to the new zoning changes and push for increased taxes for residents, it needs to be halted.

My goal is to bring supportive and heartfelt personal investment to the council. I want to continue to build on the public safety progress we’ve made, revisit the city budget and see how we can reduce overspending instead of raising taxes, and consider long-term impacts of ideas like zoning changes. Please vote for Gabriel Fernandez.
