Statement:

Our property taxes fund a beautiful and robust array of parks and park services on the island. I am running for Parks Commissioner because I'm passionate about preserving and building upon the amazing green spaces and recreational opportunities our community has to offer.

I worked for 30 years at a Seattle based logistics company, starting as a messenger and leaving as a Vice President. I have extensive experience in finance, communication, public outreach, strategy, and tactics.

I’ve lived on the island for 22 years, have 3 children all of whom have used the parks as they grew up on the island. I see the commissioners’ role as continuing and improving on what we already have for the next generation. As commissioner I will support all the parks however my focus will be those that cater to our island youth as well as those that have a water/marine component.

Occupation: Retired Shipyard General Manager; Vashon Parks Commissioner (second term)
Statement:

I am pleased to have been part of the accomplishments of the park board, park user groups and advisory committees over the past eight years, including the creation of our strategic plan, the strengthening of our financial condition, the upgrades to the Ober Park children’s playground, our deferred maintenance progress, the return of popular programs and the restoration of the district’s reputation in the community.   I am most proud of our work with the Seals swim team parents and pool advisory committee to make our community pool a year-round facility.  I pledge to continue to lead the board’s efforts to further improve the user experience at the pool, and I look forward to a continued collaboration with all these groups during a third term.

I will continue to work hard during my next term to assure that VPD parks and facilities are accessible to all and offer something for everyone.
