Statement:

For nearly 15 years, Karama Hawkins has served the people as a Public Defender throughout King County.  She is known as a zealous advocate for the most marginalized and vulnerable people in the criminal justice system. Karama believes that the justice system should not be used as a weapon but instead as a driving force for both accountability and positive change. She believes that it is critical to have judges who empower people to take control of their own lives while holding them accountable and providing the tools to facilitate success.

In 2015, Karama began her Judge Pro Tem service in the District and Municipal Courts and has now served in a dozen different courts.

She is rated “Exceptionally Well Qualified” by the Loren Miller Bar Association, Joint Asian Judicial Evaluation Committee, Cardozo Society, and Washington Women Lawyers. She is rated “Well Qualified” by the King County Bar Association, QLAW, and the Latina/o Bar Association.
