Renton School District No. 403

Proposition No. 1
Building for Excellence Bonds to Improve, Construct and Renovate School Facilities

The Board of Directors of Renton School District No. 403 adopted Resolution No. 16-18/19, concerning a proposition to improve safety, educational opportunities and outdated infrastructure. This proposition would authorize the District to:  make District-wide safety and security improvements; construct a new elementary school in Hazen Feeder Area; acquire land; provide classrooms and learning spaces for educational programs (including science and preschool); make building, accessibility and site improvements; make District-wide critical needs improvements; issue no more than $249,600,000 of general obligation bonds maturing within 21 years; and levy annual excess property taxes to repay the bonds, all as provided in Resolution No. 16-18/19. Should this proposition be:

Approved

Rejected

Passage of this proposition would authorize Renton School District to issue no more than $249,600,000 of general obligation bonds to: make District-wide safety and security improvements; construct a new elementary school in Hazen Feeder Area; acquire land; provide classrooms and learning spaces for educational programs (including science and preschool); make building, accessibility and site improvements; and make District-wide critical needs improvements.

The School Board determined that there is a need to improve safety, educational opportunities and outdated infrastructure due to: student and staff safety and security concerns; overcrowding (including enrollment demands and State of Washington class size reduction and full day kindergarten initiatives); and the needs of the District’s educational programs.

The bonds will be repaid from annual property taxes over a period not to exceed 21 years. The District estimates a 2020 tax rate for the bonds of $0.28 per $1,000 of assessed value. For all levies (including operating, capital/technology and bond levies) the District estimates a total tax rate of $3.50 through 2025, which is equal to the current 2019 rate.

Exemptions from taxes may be available to certain homeowners. For more information, please call the King County Department of Assessments 206.296.3920.

Vote Yes for the School Construction Bond – Vote Yes for our Community

The Renton School District continues to provide outstanding student education, teacher training and support while experiencing growth averaging an additional 200 students each year for the last 10 years. Let’s make sure our children have safe schools and appropriate space in which to learn. This bond measure will ensure our schools receive much-needed safety upgrades, heating-cooling system replacements, and improvements in ballfields, playgrounds, tracks and pools used both by students and neighborhood residents. The bond will provide more science classrooms to help students meet increased high school graduation requirements and fund the construction of an additional elementary school in the northeast of our city where schools serving our youngest students are overcapacity.

By supporting this measure, voters will demonstrate and acknowledge the value of education and our growing community. Due to timing and economic success of our region, voting yes will still see tax rates decline!

This School Construction Bond benefits everyone. Good schools positively affect our neighborhoods and build a stronger community, and with tax savings, it is a win for everyone. That’s why hundreds of your neighbors and community leaders are voting Yes! for this measure.
