Passage of Proposition No. 1 would renew an expiring levy and allow the levy of $71,408,000 in property taxes within Federal Way School District for collection in 2027; the levy of $74,978,000 for collection in 2028; the levy of $78,727,000 for collection in 2029; and the levy of $82,663,000 for collection in 2030. In accordance with Resolution No. 2025-12 approving this proposition, these taxes would be deposited in the Federal Way School District’s General Fund to pay part of the general expenses of operating the District. General expenses of the District include essential educational programs and school operations not funded, or not fully funded, by the State, including teachers, classroom support staff and professional development; health, counseling, and nursing services; safety and security staff; special education; College and Career Readiness; advanced courses; athletics; arts and music; technology; curriculum and instructional materials; transportation; and maintenance and custodial services. If authorized by the voters, and based on projected assessed valuation information, the estimated levy rate per $1,000 of assessed value would be $2.50 for collection in the years 2027 through 2030, inclusive. The exact levy rate shall be adjusted based upon the actual assessed value of the property within the District and the legal limit of the levy amount at the time of the levy.

Exemptions from taxes may be available to certain homeowners.  To determine if you qualify, call the King County Assessor at (206) 296-7300.

Vote Yes to renew the Federal Way Educational Programs & Operations levy! A yes vote ensures students continue receiving essential services the state does not fully fund. This levy makes up about 10% of the district’s operating budget and supports more than 200 staff members who help students learn, stay safe, and thrive—including classroom support staff, counselors, special education support, safety and security teams, custodians, and maintenance staff.

This is not a new tax—it simply replaces the expiring levy Federal Way voters have consistently supported since 1980. Without renewal, the district would face deep cuts to basic classroom programs, athletics, extracurriculars, and staffing that students depend on every day. Local levy funding keeps our schools welcoming, safe, and fully staffed, while enriching opportunities such as athletics, music, college and career readiness, STEM, and career and technical education.

Federal Way Public Schools has demonstrated responsible financial stewardship, managing resources carefully and maintaining stable, predictable collection rates even as state funding continues to fall short. These investments deliver real results, including strong graduation outcomes and successful post-secondary pursuits.

Strong schools strengthen our neighborhoods, economy, and community. Vote Yes to renew the EP&O levy and support Federal Way’s students.
