East Pierce Fire & Rescue

Proposition No. 1
Levy Lid Lift - Property Tax Levy

The Board of Fire Commissioners of East Pierce Fire & Rescue ("District") adopted Resolution No. 820 concerning an increase in the District's regular property tax levy.  For the purpose of maintaining current levels of fire and emergency medical services, Proposition No. 1 will restore the District's regular property tax levy to $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value for collection in 2018, set the limit factor at 6% for each of the three succeeding years and use the 2021 levy dollar amount for computing the limitation for subsequent levies, all as provided in Resolution No. 820.  Should Proposition No. 1 be:

Approved

Rejected

East Pierce Fire and Rescue is placing a four year emergency services lid lift proposition on the August 1, 2017 ballot. This proposition will maintain the current level of fire suppression, rescue, and fire prevention services, and staff an additional paramedic unit. This measure will re-authorize the property tax levy rate of $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation coupled with annual increases of up to 6% in each of the three subsequent years.

This proposition meets the requirement of certain tax laws, mandating that any increase in revenue of more than 1%, over the previous year, be approved by voters.  The voters previously approved the property tax levy rate of $1.50; this would re-establish that authorized amount.  The dollar amount of the levy in the fourth year would be used to establish the base amount for calculating 1% increases in the future.

Approval of this proposition would allow the Fire District to maintain the high level of services it provides to the community. Rejection of this proposition would lead to the loss of approximately $1,768,000 in projected tax revenue in the first year alone, which could affect the Fire District’s ability to continue its level of services.

East Pierce Fire and Rescue needs your support. We are asking you to please Vote Yes on Prop 1 to continue funding their Operations.

This is not a new tax, but a re-authorization of the current state limited Fire levy for $1.50 per 1000 AV. Current rate is approx. $1.38 per 1000. This 11.5 cents would be an increase of only $34.50 annually on a $300,000 home or $2.88 a month on current values.

Please Vote Yes to allow East Pierce Fire and Rescue to maintain the exceptional service level our citizens have come to expect and deserve during times of need.
