Passage of Proposition No. 1 would allow the levy of $40,700,000 in property taxes within Auburn School District No. 408 for collection in 2017, the levy of $43,000,000 for collection in 2018, the levy of $45,400,000 for collection in 2019, and the levy of $47,750,000 for collection in 2020. Passage would fund educational programs, including staffing for career and technical education, gifted/honors education, regular education, special education and English language learner programs; educational operations, including school supplies, textbooks, library books and  teacher training; all athletics and activities; maintenance and custodial, including utilities, building maintenance, grounds maintenance and printing; and transportation for athletics, activities and special education. In accordance with Resolution No. 1211 approving this proposition, these taxes would be collected over four years and used for the district educational program and operations to replace the expiring levy. If authorized by the voters, and based on projected assessed valuation information, estimated levy rates per $1,000 of assessed value would be $4.13 (2017 collection); $4.23 (2018 collection); $4.34 (2019 collection); $4.43 (2020 collection). The exact levy rate shall be adjusted based upon the actual assessed value of the property within the District at the time of the levy.

We urge a Yes vote by February 9 for renewal of the Educational Program & Operations Replacement Levy. Currently, 21% of Auburn’s general budget is funded by levy dollars. Levy renewal funds core programming including regular education, career and technical education, honors and AP programs, special education, ELL and summer school. The Levy provides 100% of activity and athletic funding. Transportation costs – drivers, mechanics, fuel and maintenance – are paid by the levy. Utilities, building maintenance, grounds care and building custodial services are funded by the levy. Textbooks, curriculum, classroom equipment, library books and teacher training are paid by levy funding. District voters have time and again demonstrated overwhelming support for school funding; we ask you to again invest in the instruction and programming that produced the excellent district wide learning outcomes. Levy renewal does not increase your tax rates. School administration’s prudent fiscal management, retiring debt and on-time and on-budget construction demonstrate accountability to district voters. There is no relief or plan in place from Olympia for fully funding education in the state. Auburn has always invested in education and our students’ success – by February 9, please vote Yes to renew the levy and keep Auburn’s schools strong.
