Federal Way Public Schools (FWPS) Board of Directors approved Resolution 2015-20 requesting voter approval of an expiring levy.

This Proposition requests approval of a six-year levy, continuing the current annual collection of $4.4 million dollars per year beginning in 2017 and continuing through 2022, with an estimated annual tax rate of $0.37 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation.

Approval of this Proposition will enable FWPS to sustain and enhance technology services at all 38 schools, with emphasis on student technology access, teacher devices and professional development, classroom presentation stations, infrastructure upgrades, and expansion of demonstration sites.  These areas of technology focus will continue to support the development of student’s 21st Century Skills, including communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.

This levy is a replacement levy which continues the current collection of $4.4 million dollars per year.  Rejection of this Proposition will eliminate the ability for FWPS to sustain and enhance current levels of student technology access.

Your support is needed to enhance technology resources in our schools. State law requires school staff and students to use technology in the classroom. Unfortunately, the state doesn’t fully fund it, forcing school districts to find alternate funding mechanisms.

Provide Equal Access. This levy ensures new technology resources in our schools and innovative professional development for educators so that all students have access to computers and the internet.

Levy includes: a) Equal tech access and instruction for all students, b) Maintenance and replacement of existing equipment as needed, c) Tech tools, training, and integration for educators and staff.

Support Modern Classrooms. Technology in our schools is more than just computers. Classrooms are interactive learning spaces where educators can use multimedia displays and new technologies that engage students.

Prepare Our Children. From writing workshops to science labs, technology devices, tools and resources are essential in 21st century teaching and learning.  Prepare our children for success, a higher education, and the workforce of the future.

Vote Yes! By supporting this replacement levy, you are continuing an investment in our classrooms that our children and educators can depend on for the next six years!
