Proposition No. 1
Property Tax Levy for Fire and Emergency Medical Services

The City Council of the City of Milton passed Resolution No. 10-1784 proposing to authorize a new regular property tax levy rate.  If passed, Proposition No. 1 would permit the City to fund fire and emergency medical services, including paramedics, by levying for collection in 2011 the regular property tax at a rate not to exceed $3.00 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, thereby lifting the revenue limitation in Chapter 84.55 RCW.  The maximum allowable levy in 2011 shall be used to determine future levy increases for the succeeding four years only.  Should Proposition No. 1 be approved?

YES

NO

The Milton City Council determined that it is essential to provide enhanced fire and emergency medical services, including paramedics. The City Council also determined that career and volunteer firefighters, paramedics and emergency medical technicians should be available 24 hours per day to serve the Milton community. To do so, additional funding from a stable and reliable source is necessary. After considering several funding options, the City Council is placing before the voters Proposition No. 1 for a levy lid lift on regular property tax. Proceeds will be used entirely and as the primary source of funding for fire, paramedic and emergency medical services.

If approved, this proposition authorizes the city to levy for collection in 2011, regular property tax in excess of limitations established in Chapter 84.55 RCW. The increase above limitations would be up to $1.21 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, PROVIDED that the maximum rate at which regular property tax is levied does not exceed $3.00 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The 2011 levy amount becomes the base from which subsequent levy limitations are calculated for the following four years; after which, the base amount reverts back to what it would have been without approval of this proposition.

Improve our Fire Department Services

Our City of Milton firefighters and local leaders urge you to vote YES on the proposed Lid Lift which raises the property tax providing dedicated funds necessary to operate fire and emergency medical aid vehicles staffed by firefighter emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and firefighter paramedics.  The proposed Lid Lift will increase the amount the City can levy from property taxes.

Bring Paramedic Services to Milton to Save Lives

Our volunteer firefighters have served and will continue to serve the citizens of Milton from the Milton Fire Station; however we will have the benefit of firefighter paramedics.  We will also benefit with NO out of pocket expense Fire Department ambulance service.  Currently we don’t receive this vital service from our volunteer Fire Department.  We need advanced life support (ALS) paramedic service that we don’t currently have to save LIVES!

Please VOTE YES on Proposition 1 to provide needed fire and paramedic service to the citizens of Milton.
