Passage of Proposition No. 1 would allow the levy of $7,150,000 in property taxes within Fife School District for collection in 2011, the levy of $7,550,000 in taxes for collection in 2012, the levy of $7,950,000 in taxes for collection in 2013, and the levy of $8,350,000 in taxes for collection in 2014. In accordance with Resolution No. 09-8 approving this proposition, these taxes would be deposited into the General Fund of the District and used to pay part of the cost of educational programs and operations support of the District. General expenses of the District include hiring additional staffing to maintain low class sizes, special education programs, professional growth opportunities, transportation costs, additional textbooks and other instructional materials, athletics and other extracurricular activities such as drama and music, ongoing facilities maintenance and repairs, and other instructional program support of the District. If authorized by the voters and based on current assessed valuation information, estimated levy rates would be $2.21 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2011, $2.33 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2012, $2.41 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2013, and $2.48 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2014.
