King County Fire Protection District No. 50

Proposition No. 1
Levy Lid Lift

The Board of King County Fire Protection District No. 50 adopted Resolution No. 25-02 concerning a proposition to restore its regular property tax levy.

This proposition authorizes the District to establish its regular property tax levy at $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value to be assessed in 2025 and collected in 2026. The funds will maintain and improve fire protection, and emergency medical services, replace apparatus and equipment, and provide for firefighter safety. The dollar amount of the 2025 levy collected in 2026 shall serve as the base for computing subsequent levy limitations as provided by chapter 84.55 RCW.

Should this Proposition be:

Approved

Rejected

King County Fire Protection District No. 50 provides emergency fire protection and medical services to its citizens. If approved by the voters, this proposition authorizes the Department to establish its regular real property tax levy rate at  $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2025 for collection in 2026 (the current levy is approximately $.86  per $1,000 of assessed valuation).

Your Fire Department Board of Commissioners has determined that this proposition is necessary to maintain an effective level of services, fire fighter staffing, equipment and facilities in light of rising costs and increasing service demands. Approval of this measure will allow your fire department to maintain the level of fire protection and emergency medical services provided to its citizens.

The dollar amount levied in 2025 for collection in 2026 shall serve as the fire department’s tax levy base and absent further voter approval, the tax levy will then be subject to the statutory one percent limit.

Raising the fire levy lid is an investment in our community’s safety and resilience. Today, our fire department faces budget constraints that threaten the quality of emergency response, firefighter training, and the upkeep of lifesaving equipment. A lid lift would restore funding to sustainable levels, ensuring that when disaster strikes, whether a fire, medical emergency, or natural disaster—our department is fully prepared to respond swiftly and effectively.

This measure directly funds essential services, keeping our firefighters equipped with modern tools and the ongoing training they need to protect lives and property. It also reflects our commitment to fiscal responsibility, addressing financial challenges now to prevent future deficits and higher costs down the line.

Every dollar raised will be transparently invested in maintaining and improving core emergency services. By supporting the fire levy lid lift, you’re helping ensure our services don’ t degrade over the years but continue to assure the community remains safe, secure, and well-served—today and for years to come. Let’s come together to support those who protect us and preserve the strength of our neighborhood.
