Passage of Proposition No. 1 would allow the Renton School District to replace an existing educational programs and operations levy that will expire at the end of calendar year 2026. The taxes collected by this replacement levy will be used to pay expenses of educational programs and operations that are not fully funded by the State of Washington, including, but not limited to, class size reduction, technology, curriculum, maintenance & operations, nutrition services, safety, counseling, social emotional supports, middle & high school athletics/activities, summer school & after school enrichment, elementary music & art programs, substitutes, nurses, psychologists, counselors, services for students in special education, and other programs for supporting the whole child. The enhancements requested are to fulfill legal obligations or community expectations for school programming. Further information is available on the District’s website www.rentonschools.us.

The proposed four-year replacement educational programs and operation levy would authorize collection of taxes to provide up to $58,217,253 in 2027, $61,514,773 in 2028, $64,320,460 in 2029, and $66,735,516 in 2030. The levy rate per $1,000 of assessed value required to produce these amounts is estimated to be $1.33 in 2027, $1.34 in 2028, $1.33 in 2029, and $1.32 in 2030. The exact levy rate and amount to be collected may be adjusted based upon the actual assessed value of the taxable property within the District and the limitations imposed by State law at the time of the levy. Exemptions from taxes may be available, call the King County Department of Assessments, 206-296-3920.

Your vote for this renewal levy allows Renton Schools to continue its commitment to high-quality education in every classroom. The Educational Programs & Operations Levy provides more than 14% of school operating budgets. These local levy dollars are essential to fund vital programs not fully funded by the state, such as safety/security staff, special education, substitute teachers, custodial staff, pre-K early learning, mental health counselors, nurses, and more.

This is not a new tax. For decades, Renton School District voters have continued to support this levy to fund student programs and essential school staff. Renton Schools values your support, uses your money wisely, and has an exemplary record of fiscal management, reflecting strong financial stewardship.
